10 weeks, 1 day (quarter of the way there!!!)

We are now 10 weeks pregnant (56 days after conception), which is the beginning of week 11. Boo measures about 3.5cm and weighs about 5 grams. By the end of this week all the major organs will be in place. Over the following months before birth, they will continue to grow and mature. Boo's legs are now longer than their arms and the large muscles in their arms and legs have developed, forming thick bands of padding between their skin and underlying bones. The brain and nervous system are maturing, their muscles and nerves now working together to facilitate Boo's first movements. Initially the movements are only small, jerky and uncoordinated and Boo is far too small for the me to feel any movements within. Boo now has primitive reflexes and can respond to touch if stroked on the palm of their hands or the soles of their feet. Boo can now open their jaw and stretch. Their body is straighter and small ribs can be seen through their chest. Their digestive system is developing rapidly and they are about to have a growth spurt!

Meet Boo

Had a dating scan today, the result being that Boo is younger than we thought (we were ahead of ourselves by 6 days)....so Boo is actually 10 weeks and 1 day old..... (I'll have to check my diary and see exactly when that makes conception - will be interesting to work out what else we did that day!)

It's funny, but since seeing the scan, it's all so REAL now.....it's like we were playing pretend before, and now it's like "wow, there really IS a baby in there!".

Heartbeat was fluttering away - very fast, which we were told is normal and good!

So, blog-readers, meet Boo:

And no, that's not 2 Boo's, but rather 2 printouts of the same scan.......

I've noted where the head is for those of you (like me, prior to today) that are finding it hard to make out.....

So, those of you that voted TWINS were wrong - feel free to change your vote.....

Dabria & Tara

Counting down! Can't believe it is today! Checking the Niedzwiedz and Bowman blogs constantly (see links on the side)..... Today is the Day!!! Dabria and Tara will meet their wonderful loving families!! YAY YAY! Worth the wait!

"Baby Inside"

Dropped in with Sash to visit mum and Graham today.....and got a cool pressie! Thanks ma for the "Baby Inside" singlet! It will get much wear, especially with this divine weather and wanting to point out that am preggers, not just getting fat!

Note the bassinet in the picture above! A much appreciated lend from the Niedzy's, which I put in our bedroom yesterday just to see how it looked...... I never got around to moving it back to it's storage area, and when I woke up this morning, freaked myself out when that was the first thing I saw!!!! Thought I'd lost 7 months of my life and just jumped ahead of time!!!

First Hospital Appointment

Nothing really to report....lots of medical questions to be answered and blood to be taken (as usual, my veins didn't cooperate, so the midwife sent me to Pathology, who punctured me twice before being successful). Had to wee in a sample jar - fun!

Unfortunately no scan or heartbeat taken at this appointment.....oh well, that time will come so we'll have to be a little more patient in seeing our first image of Boo......

Next appointment is 28 September - - stay tuned!

9 weeks, 4 days

My new resident is nearly an inch long — barely the size of a grape — and weighs just a fraction of an ounce, but is poised for rapid weight gain now that the basic physical structure is in place. Boo's also starting to look more and more human. The embryonic "tail" is now completely gone and body parts — including organs, muscles, and nerves — are kicking into gear. Eyelids are fused shut and won't open until 27 weeks. Boo has earlobes, and by week's end, the inner workings of the ears will be complete. The upper lip is fully formed, too, plus mouth, nose, and nostrils are more distinct. The tips of his fingers are slightly enlarged where the touch pads are developing. All major joints — shoulders, elbows, wrists, knees, and ankles — are working, enabling Boo to move his/her limbs. As for the heart, it has divided into four chambers now, and the valves have started to develop. External sex organs are there, but won't be distinguishable as male or female for another few weeks.

00000's

Look! Boo's first "00000" outfit! And it's got bears on the feet! Thanks Aunty Ami & Uncle Adam!
(Note it sitting on the plastic tub that I thought would take me 9 months to fill!!! It's bursting at the seams)

8 Weeks, 5 Days

Boo is now about the size of a kidney bean - constantly moving and shifting, although I won't be able to feel these womb wiggles for several weeks yet. The embryonic tail is disappearing, and eyelids practically cover Boo's eyes. Still slightly webbed, fingers and toes are growing longer. Boo's arms have lengthened, too, and hands are now flexed at the wrist and meet over the heart. Knee joints have formed, and feet may be long enough to meet in front of the body. With Boo's trunk straightening out, the head is more erect. Breathing tubes extend from the throat to the branches of the developing lungs. The nerve cells in Boo's brain are also branching out to connect with one another, forming primitive neural pathways. The external genitals still haven't developed enough to reveal whether Boo is a boy or a girl.

8 Weeks

Unfortunately, I look chunky rather than pregnant. Can't wait to be obviously pregnant....but at the same time, am not wishing away time as I'm enjoying and appreciating every stage.....

The BabyBjorn

Today I picked up an absolute bargain! A BabyBjorn carrier for only $30 - it's the older model, but seems really comfy. Boo can face either towards me or our to the world....
I couldn't wait to get home and try it on, but alas, we don't have any teddy-bears in the house to test drive with (that haven't been slobbered on and owned by Baldric), so I resorted to the Robo-Sapien.....
Resembles daddy more than mummy, me thinketh!

My pregnancy symptoms to date……

Fatigue

Tiredness has kicked in well and truly. I thought I was tired last week, but that had nothing on the last couple of days. Last night I had to raincheck a dinner date with Ann as I was so shattered (and since when would I pass up a good goss, schnitzel and a flutter!!), and I was in bed by 6.15pm and dozing off in Thank God You’re Here.

At work today, hit a wall. In the past my saviour has been either coffee or an energy drink. I’m now avoiding both to be safe, especially in these first 12 weeks. Instead, I ducked down to the local chicken shop and grabbed a Greek Salad, with the hope that this healthy alternative might kick start the energy levels…..

Frequent Urination

Well, I thought I pee’d a lot before…..sheesh, I didn’t know what the word frequent meant until now. Lots of extra exercise though rather than being stuck at my desk for hours on end…..maybe I should dig out my old pedometer……

I always believed that frequent loo stops happened in the latter stages of pregnancy, but I’ve since learnt otherwise.

Apparently, and I quote “Up to about 14 weeks of the pregnancy passing more urine is mainly because of an increase in urine production by the kidneys, due to pregnancy hormonal changes. To a lesser degree frequent urination can result from pressure on the bladder from the growing uterus as well as an increased blood supply to the pelvis.” So there.

Queasiness

Have been very lucky – no chucky vomits and don’t really expect them. Strange things make me a little queasy, but not to vomit stage. Couple of gags though, caused by the smell of freshly mown grass (go figure), and the mixture of smells in our fridge (nothing is out of date or off, I just can’t stomach the combined smells). Still able to feed Baldric both biscuits and dog meat though, which I’m happy with.

Constipation

I won’t go into too much detail here. You get the idea.

Heartburn

It comes and it goes….not consistent though – oj can do it, as can milk….

Hooters

Whoever said more than a handful is a waste? Loving this symptom! Need new bra’s. Have a shopping trip booked with Terese on Monday – just added bra’s to my wishlist.

Ticker - 7 weeks, 6 days

Now about 1.25 centimetres long, the size of a grape, Boo has distinct, slightly webbed fingers and toes. It's a jumping bean, moving in fits and starts. The liver is churning out large amounts of red blood cells until the bone marrow forms and takes over this role. The eighth week marks the beginning of a very busy developmental stage. Between now and 20 weeks, Boo will be growing rapidly, and body parts that formed in the first few weeks of life (such as the heart and brain) will become more specialised and complicated. Right now, the teeth and palate are forming, while the ears continue to develop. The fetus' skin is paper thin, and veins are clearly visible.

Bum Genius' have arrived....

Whoever would have thought I could get so excited about nappies!!!
Our 3 Bum Genius AIO (that's All In One) One Size nappies arrived in the mail today....
Colours are quite neutral for this first batch... "Butternut" (aka yellow), "Grasshopper" (aka green) and "Natural" (yup, white).
The plan is to buy a 3-pack a month, resulting in the recommended 24 cloth nappies (and microfibre inserts) ready to catch Boo's waste.
A HUGE thanks to Michelle for helping me sort through the plethora of multiple sites and confusing information that is out there on cloth's.
Can you believe I've already purchased a nappy bucket ready for dry-pailing? And Bi-Carb in bulk!!!

Week 7

First night where I am chauffeur - am sure I'll get used to it!!
We "think" this is at the end of WEEK 7, but all dates will be confirmed at our first Antenatel appointment on Thursday, 23 August 2007! Can't wait!!!!
Once again, I believe it may be a little early to blame Boo directly for the belly, however, I believe my only symptom is to blame!!! (blech, constipation!!!)
